Wendy Fair

Wendy Fair is a family company and is run by Nick Hobday and Tessa Darby, with Wendy Hobday still taking an active role in the business.

Ken and Wendy Hobday started trading on markets in the 1960's selling decorative lighting. They soon decided to run their own markets in 1972,  and use their experience as market traders for several years, to understand the problems from both sides of the fence. Wendy Fair Market Operators have gone from strength to strength, operating many private and public markets with excellent results, and positive feedback from traders.

We generally operate on 30 days a week, across 15 markets, ranging from a local town centre 10 stall Market, to a large, 600 stall operation at Wembley Stadium every Sunday. Our markets have high occupancy levels, regular traders and happy customers.
The ethos of the company continues today, as Ken and Wendy started all those years ago, to talk to the traders each day and treat them all fairly. We make an effort to be in touch with the traders, resolving issues as they are encountered and making sure the market has a good atmosphere.  The traders appreciate this which is shown in the success of the business and in their loyalty to the company.

Wendy Hobday gave a talk on the relationship between private and Council run markets at the one day conference on "Law Of Markets" at the London Press Centre.  She has also spoken at other venues like the National Market Traders Federation Conference, Manorial Rights Society, NABMA and Retail Committee of the British Chambers of Commerce.  

Nick Hobday is the Operations Director and deals with all the day to day running of the markets, and the operations thereof. He is the primary point of contact for new Business and Development.  He is also a member of the St Neots Town Centre Forum.  Nick is a Market manager at Bovingdon and Wembley Markets.

Tessa Darby manages the administration of the company from the Head Office in Ruislip. She also covers Managers' holidays on site, which means that she regularly visits all the Markets.

A guide for site owners

Wendy Fair is a family Company and is run by, Wendy Hobday, her son Nick Hobday and her daughter Tessa Darby, and has been established for 40 years.
We negotiate terms with the landowner, and arrange any legal requirements, using our extensive legal experience. We enlist and manage the traders, taking care of  Health&Safety, Insurance, and other requirements. The markets are all operated on site, on the day, by a professional market manager, and centrally by our Head Ofice at Ruislip, Middlesex.

Kerry is the new girl at Wendy Fair, after 8 years. She deftly handles everything that comes across her desk, with calm efficiency. She fits in very well here at Wendy Fair being one of a family of five, so can understand ALL of our points of view.

Michelle came here on work experience from school, and never looked anywhere else! She is the main point of contact for the managers on site, and she is the one that receives all the paperwork when it comes into the office. All enquiries about insurance, administraion and finance come through her. She gives the adding machine no mercy, in an effort to make everything balance.
